Hardcover: 240 pagesPublisher: Hachette Books; 1st edition (September 4, 2012)Language: EnglishISBN-10: 1401322786ISBN-13: 978-1401322786 Product Dimensions: 5.5 x 0.9 x 7.6 inches Shipping Weight: 8 ounces (View shipping rates and policies) Best Sellers Rank: #11,240 in Books (See Top 100 in Books) #5 in Books > Literature & Fiction > Genre Fiction > Religious & Inspirational > Science Fiction & Fantasy #11 in Books > Christian Books & Bibles > Literature & Fiction > Fantasy #16 in Books > Christian Books & Bibles > Literature & Fiction > Classics & Allegories
The Time Keeper, by Mitch Albom, follows the creator of time. Dor, the main character, is Father Time; he is the Time Keeper, cursed to hear every one of man’s cries for time. Published by Hyperion, ISBN: 9781401322786, the book should appeal to anyone who have ever said "I just don’t have the time."

As a young man, Dor is the first human to develop a system of counting and measuring time. His discovery leads him to forsake everyone in his life, except one person who is immune to his obsession. This one person, Alli, is the only one who holds the key to access Dor’s attention; the only one whose presence has the ability to make Dor forget about his discovery. Dor’s motivations are made clear by the author. His environment and his discovery play against each other in a well-developed tension which, in turn, plays into the development of the entire narrative.

Mitch Albom provides enough detail at crucial points in the story to inform the reader of the driving themes of two other supporting characters, Sarah and Victor, who are plagued with being bound by time. Their personal struggles and their lives are driven by their blind constraint. Along with Dor, they are all prisoners of the same device. Only when the protagonist frees Dor, does Dor begin to understand the sentence and the meaning of the very thing he invented. He is a slave, perhaps in Plato’s Cave, where he is only exposed to the shadows of thoughts and reality from outside the cave.

He eventually becomes the master of the thing that once held him. He holds the hourglass, where he was once imprisoned and which now maintains control. Before he can guide the others through their obsessions, he is without direction as he discerns the meaning of his hourglass.
The measurement of time, Mitch Albom’s parable tells us, distinguishes man from other animals. Man alone measures time, and man alone fears time running out. Every parable has a moral, and Albom’s is this: we should replace fear of losing time with an appreciation of the time we have. It is a worthy lesson, even if the parable flounders as it makes its way there.

The Time Keeper imagines Father Time as a real person. In biblical times, Father Time’s name was Dor. While his childhood friend Nim was building the Tower of Babel, Dor was learning how to measure time. When Dor’s wife becomes ill, Dor tries to climb the tower in the hope that by reaching the heavens, he can make time stop. When the tower falls, Dor is banished to a cave and cursed with immortality because he offended God. By teaching man to count time, "the wonder of the world he has been given is lost."

Alternating with Dor’s story are those of two other characters. Victor Delamonte, the fourteenth-richest man in the world, has a tumor on his liver. At the age of 86, he is running out of time. He resolves to buy more time. Sarah Lemon is a smart but unattractive seventeen-year-old who falls in love with an insensitive hunk named Ethan. When he rejects her, she doesn’t know if she wants to keep living — she wants less time than she has been allotted. Dor’s penance — his chance to atone for the sin of inventing clocks — requires him to intervene in the lives of Victor and Sarah.

The Time Keeper is easily read in one or two sittings (depending upon how long you sit). Albom uses simple sentences to tell a simple story. As is generally true of parables, simplicity is The Time Keeper’s defining characteristic.
" The Time Keeper" by Mitch Albom. Release date: Sept. 4, Hyperion Publishing
"Where did the time go?" "Time flies." "I ran out of time." "It’s like time stood still." They’re just a few examples of the time-related phrases that we all use, words that imply is something that we can’t control.
But, what if you could, would you want what comes with the responsibility?
Time – whether it’s too or too little – and how it’s handled by fallible humans is the subject of best-selling author Mitch Albom’s latest , "The Time Keeper." Just as with his other hits – "Tuesdays with Morrie," "Have a Little Faith," "One More Day" and "The Five People You Meet in Heaven," his novel is a thought provoker, urging readers to find the depth in his simple, yet imaginative writings. He has once again taken a simple theme and created an inspirational tale that lingers in the mind long after the last page is read.

Time is first noticed 600,000 years by Dor, an ordinary man with an extraordinary need to count, measure and bring order to his days. He is the first man on earth to count hours, literally becoming Father Time. Rather than embracing time as a gift from God, Dor challenges Him when his wife dies.
Dor is banished to a cave when voices rise up from a pool as they ask, plead and demand more time. Centuries have passed, and Dor doesn’t have the spiritual strength to take much more. God agrees to free him if he can help two people, a teenage girl named Sarah and an elderly man, Victor, embrace the true meaning of time. Armed with a magical hourglass, Dor travels through time into today’s society, one dominated and dictated by time.

Language: EnglishID: B00S1QAEFGText-to-Speech: Enabled X-Ray: Not Enabled Word Wise: Not EnabledLending: Not Enabled Enhanced Typesetting: Not Enabled Best Sellers Rank: #92,703 Paid in Kindle Store (See Top 100 Paid in Kindle Store) #32 in Books > Computers & Technology > Security & Encryption > Encryption #35 in Books > Computers & Technology > Security & Encryption > Cryptography #36 in Books > Computers & Technology > Security & Encryption > Viruses

Material is great (test questions in book and on CD/DVD. BUT there are too many errors for a big time publisher like McGraw-Hill. Wait for the next print release that has corrections completed. For example, Page 12, answers 26-28 do not match the expanded answers on pages 36-38. Also, CD/DVD quiz Access Control-P2 Question 52 has typos and incorrect information. TACACS+ not TACAS+. I’m sure that RADIUS is old and uses UDP and TACACS+ is TCP…look at the answer, first sentence says TCP and last sentence says UDP. I’m very new to CISSP and want a resource with better technical editing then McGraw-Hill’s first attempt.

Great book with good questions. Using the digital tests I got from the E-book, I was able to take and pass the CISSP. One handy thing about it was that the new format questions were included as well, so i was able to see what those were like before I took the test.

Oh and when taking the test, take a time out in the middle for a nice bag lunch (packed with love of course) and a short nap. Your mind really will be refreshed after that, it seriously helps.

This is NOT about the content. To "take" the quizzes or exams (1-10) you have to connect to a server. In my browser – I had to enable flash, enable javascript … and I am still having difficulty – because I get popups Norton? that javascript is dangerous and prevents it from running. Why would any security exam require you to enable javascript and flash in your browser? I though everything was self contained in the DVD.

Machine Design 5th Edition

Machine Design (5th Edition) 5th Edition
Author: Robert L. Norton ID: 013335671X

About the Author

Robert L. Norton earned undergraduate degrees in both mechanical engineering and industrial technology at Northeastern University and an MS in engineering design at Tufts University. He is a registered professional engineer in Massachusetts. He has extensive industrial experience in engineering design and manufacturing and many years’ experience teaching mechanical engineering, engineering design, computer science, and related subjects at Northeastern University, Tufts University, and Worcester Polytechnic Institute.

At Polaroid Corporation for 10 years, he designed cameras, related mechanisms, and high-speed automated machinery. He spent three years at Jet Spray Cooler Inc., designing food-handling machinery and products. For five years he helped develop artificial-heart and noninvasive assisted-circulation (counterpulsation) devices at the Tufts New England Medical Center and Boston City Hospital. Since leaving industry to join academia, he has continued as an independent consultant on engineering projects ranging from disposable medical products to high-speed production machinery. He holds 13 U.S. patents.

Norton has been on the faculty of Worcester Polytechnic Institute since 1981 and is currently the Milton P. Higgins II Distinguished Professor of Mechanical Engineering, Russell P. Searle Distinguished Instructor, Head of the Design Group in that department, and the Director of the Gillette Project Center at WPI. He teaches undergraduate and graduate courses in mechanical engineering with emphasis on design, kinematics, vibrations, and dynamics of machinery.

He is the author of numerous technical papers and journal articles covering kinematics, dynamics of machinery, cam design and manufacturing, computers in education, and engineering education and of the texts Design of Machinery, Machine Design: An Integrated Approach and the Cam Design and Manufacturing Handbook. He is a Fellow of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers and a member of the Society of Automotive Engineers. But, since his main interest is in teaching, he is most proud of the fact that, in 2007, he was chosen as U. S. Professor of the Year for the State of Massachusetts by the Council for the Advancement and Support of Education (CASE) and the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching, who jointly present the only national awards for teaching excellence given in the United States of America.

Hardcover: 1104 pagesPublisher: Prentice Hall; 5 edition (September 16, 2013)Language: EnglishISBN-10: 013335671XISBN-13: 978-0133356717 Product Dimensions: 8.3 x 1.7 x 9.9 inches Shipping Weight: 4.3 pounds Best Sellers Rank: #68,760 in Books (See Top 100 in Books) #19 in Books > Engineering & Transportation > Engineering > Mechanical > Machinery #39 in Books > Textbooks > Engineering > Mechanical Engineering #16931 in Books > Reference

Excellent content, poor manufacturing on binding the pages together-I have a hardcover book. After a year of having the book, all of the pages are falling out. The absolute worst bounded book that I have ever payed over 200 bucks for. Shame on you Prentice Hall. A classmate also bought the same book, and his book is basically a loose leaf booklet already.

This book seems pretty useful, however it is not very user friendly. The homework problems constantly refer to diagrams and tables that are not on the same page as the problem itself. Sometimes you’ll have problems telling you to look at several figures throughout the chapter and so you’ll have to dig through the chapter to find them just to answer the homework problem. Other homework problems reference figures and tables that happen to be on the next page of homework problems. I’ve never had a book that has done this and it’s pretty annoying. The homework problems also build upon themselves, so if you do problem 5.44 it basically asks you to redo problem 4.44 and do some additional work. This is also annoying because it makes you do the same work over and over again.

If you’re assigned homework out of this book, you’ll be doing a lot of referencing. It will tell you, ‘see problem 4-27’ and then when you read 4-27 it will say ‘refer to figure 3-2’. The book sometimes refers you to the wrong figure. The chapters are very long as well.

Review

“I would highly recommend this text to my fellow faculty and all other HIM colleagues. I would encourage them to adopt this text because of the positive results I see in student accomplishment during the exercises. The wide range of scenarios and activities build student self-confidence in areas where they have had little or no experience. Most of all, the students enjoy working on the case studies as they put their HIM knowledge into practice.”

“I love this book, I love the variety of topics all under the same cover- students can buy it once and use it multiple times.”

About the Author

Patricia Schnering is an adjunct instructor of HIM at St. Petersburg College, and serves on its advisory board. In addition to experience as an HIM supervisor and consultant, she is the founder and owner of PRG Publishing Inc., where she published the first Professional Review Guides. Ms. Schering has served as president of GCHIMA and on FHIMA’s board of directors, where she twice received the FHIMA Literary Award. She is also a member of AHIMA and the Assembly on Education (AOE). In addition to a B.S.in business administration from the University of South Florida, she is a graduate of the health information management program at St. Petersburg College, and holds both CCS and RHIA certifications.

Nanette B. Sayles, Ed.D., RHIA, CCS, CHPS, CPHIMS, FAHIMA, is a 1985 graduate of the University of Alabama at Birmingham Health Information Management Program (formerly Medical Record Administration Program). She went on to earn master of science in health information management and master of public administration degrees from the University of Alabama at Birmingham, as well as a doctorate in adult education from the University of Georgia. An associate professor in the Health Information Management Program at East Central College in Union, Missouri, Sayles previously served as program director and assistant professor for the Health Information Management and Technology Programs at Macon State College in Macon, Georgia. She has extensive HIM experience in hospitals, consulting, system development and implementation, and education and is the recipient of the 2005 AHIMA Triumph Educator award.

Charlotte McCuen, M.S., RHIA, is a graduate of Medical College of Georgia (1983) where she earned her BS degree in Health Information Administration (formerly Medical Record Administration). She later returned to college to further her education earning a Masters in Health Care Policy and Administration from Mercer University (1998) in Macon, Georgia. Prior to teaching she worked 15 years as a HIM Director in an acute care hospital, behavioral health care hospital and consulted for long-term care facilities, physician offices, and renal dialysis centers.

Some of the case studies are pointless. This is the new updated version, and the publisher did not even take the time to update website links or other important information needed to complete the cases. There are some changes to page numbers and case numbers so you have to buy this edition, not the old one, to make sure you do the correct case for class.

some of the senarios do not make sense …even to folks who have passed exams and work in the field

I suppose it is good for critical thinking practices, but as another reviewer pouted out, the publisher did not even take the time to update website links or other important information needed to complete the cases. Also, different facilities/hospitals have a lot of their own rules and regulations about handling different situations.
